HP original cartridges won’t work in HP printers?

Effective 1st December 2020 certain HP original ink cartridges may no longer work in HP printers.

Editor’s Opinion: You could not make this up could you. In the run up to the Christmas holiday, HP will lock out their own cartridges and to compound this, offer no guidance on swopping out cartridges with the short expiry dates.

HP advises consumers that from the 1st December 2020 HP 903 (edited to show just our region) cartridges with Warranty Ends date of Apr 2021 or earlier might not be compatible with the following specific HP OfficeJet printers.

Again, from the 1st December 2020 the following ink cartridges HP 953 (edited to show just our region) cartridges might not be compatible with these HP OfficeJet Pro printers where the warranty ends date is January 2021 or earlier.

HP said they began shipping a new updated version of the ink cartridges from early 2019. The cartridges are HP 903, 953 (edited to show just our region).The updated ink cartridges are compatible with both current and future printers that use these cartridge numbers. Cartridge and printer availability and compatibility may vary by region.

HP advises that original HP cartridges installed in these printers prior to December 1, 2020 function normally and without interruption and that you should continue to buy and use the cartridge number that is compatible with your printer.

The updated cartridges are compatible with all printers that use the existing cartridges and that you should install cartridges with the earliest Warranty Ends date first.

No advice was given about exchanging cartridges with an early expiry date.
